From 2022, Comfort Zone products are certified plastic Neutral

Davines Group has extended its commitment to sustainability and renewed its partnership with social enterprise Plastic Bank.

This comes after the conclusion of the global campaign “Rethinking Plastic” in 2021, under which 100 tons of plastic were collected from the coastal areas of Brazil, the Philippines and Indonesia.

The target for 2022; for every product sold by Davines Group, an equal amount of ocean-bound plastic will be collected.

Thanks to its partnership with Plastic Bank, by the end of the year the Group will collect and remove the equivalent amount of plastic derived from sales of products by both brands, Davines and [ comfort zone ] from the environment.

This means it will neutralise its plastic emissions and obtain the Plastic Neutral certification from Plastic Bank.

The Group said its decision to collect plastic in Brazil, Indonesia and the Philippines was motivated by the climate of extreme environmental and social emergency these countries are experiencing, due to high rates of plastic pollution, lack of disposal infrastructures and higher dependency on single-use packaging.

Plastic Bank
Davines’ partner Plastic Bank has prevented more than 40m kilograms of plastic from entering the ocean by building ethical recycling ecosystems and reprocessing materials for re-entry into the global supply chain while improving the quality of life of local collector communities.

Local collectors exchange ocean-bound plastic for bonuses that provide access to basic family necessities, like food, cooking fuel, school fees and health insurance.

The collected material is reborn as Social Plastic feedstock, which can be easily reintegrated into products and packaging as part of a closed-loop supply chain.

The renewal of the partnership with Plastic Bank is grounded in a shared common objective with Davines Group; to support the development of a truly regenerative society, through the revolution of the plastic cycle, improving peoples' lives and preventing plastic from entering the seas.

This all comes with an important guarantee of transparency, as Plastic Bank enables the real-time monitoring of all collections through a blockchain platform.

"Our brands are present in more than 90 countries and we’re aware of the impact this has on the planet,” comments Davide Bollati, Davines Group chair.

“This is why our commitment extends beyond our borders and is focused on doing everything possible to reduce our footprint and transform it into a positive impact on the planet and its inhabitants.”

David Katz, Plastic Bank founder and CEO, adds: “By making the bold choice to offer sustainable, plastic neutral products, Davines is thoughtfully shepherding the beauty industry and consumers alike towards the right side of history.”
